Recently, we replaced Troy University’s broadcast news set. They upgraded to a Complete Dual Set with a Monolith News Desk and a Large Curve News Desk. After installation, they produced a broadcast segment about the set upgrade. This just awesome.
Here’s a link to their article about the set design upgrade:
Here’s their latest live broadcast!
The Troy Set
This project is a great example of using a few add ons for an extra awesome result. To start, the Complete Dual Set seen here combines the Complete Corner and Complete Strong set into one cohesive look. Starting on the left, let’s look at the background of the set.
First, Troy University opted to have a textured brick archway filled with a backlit graphic panel. This panel shows a road leading to the University’s Hawkins Hall. It gives the viewer the illusion that they are looking out into the campus. To the right of the arch, we added a large version of their T logo. It was made by printing on Sintra and then cutting the shape on our CNC router. Next, there is a large screen monitor on a rolling stand. This Single Monitor Stand is great because it is on wheels and you can easily move it anywhere in the set. To the right of that, we installed three monitors on the set wall. With the addition of a Digibird, those screens are able to share one image split into three parts. Lastly, there are a few more printed graphic panels framed by lit up columns.
That is all very impressive, but let’s not forget the desks. On the left, there is a Monolith News Desk on a platform with handrails. The desk has a beautiful, shiny acrylic top, inset monitor, and RGB LED endcaps that can be lit in thousands of colors. The platform is cam locked together. So all it takes is the turn of an Allen wrench to break the platform away and roll it elsewhere.
On the right, we have a Large Curve News Desk with a smaller Troy University T logo on the front. This desk is especially popular with schools because it is an economical way to start building a good looking broadcast or add on to an existing setup.
